The wisdom of
Auckland, New Zealand
For sure will have been given more than one special talent or ability. It may - be it artistic, or athletic, or the ability to mould a team together or to manage a group. You may be able to view things differently from others and combine ideas into something new and original. But for sure you are special, so practice your individuality.
Both practicing and playing in team sports was the most rewarding aspect of my youngers life. Practicing and perfecting skills that were appreciated by my teammates together with the joint sharing of our successes and failures moulded my personality.
When I was a teenager I became passionate and competitive about yachting after my father and I built a small sailing dingy together. I discovered that I was good at both the yacht racing and the boatbuilding. Together we went on to build more than 15 boats together for both myself and my friends.
To make the next yacht faster and better than its predecessor I had to learn about design, and then draw the plans. Each boat constructed honed my boatbuilding skills and then each race thereafter perfected my tactics and led to ideas and refinements and features to be utilized in the future.
Have a purpose. Write your plan, mark your progress and be confident that you are on a road to somewhere. Be prepared to edit and revise both your long-term plans and your daily targets in to achieve your goals.
To start any new project – be it a homework project or to construct something you need a plan. It requires a visualization of the final product and then a list of the steps to take you to completion. Perfecting the art of managing a new project need be no different to planning your life goals.
Throughout life you may have thoughts and ideas of being entrepreneurial, know your strengths and build on them, understand your weaknesses and give those tasks to others you can trust. Then don’t hold back on your thoughts and ideas. Never seek fame, let it find you.
Accepting a disappointing situation does not mean that you should give up on your goals and ambitions. ‘The pessimist complains about the wind. The optimist expects it to change. The realist adjusts the sails’.
Each challenge that you overcome builds your self-confidence, your self-esteem and personal belief and is essential for building your life skills. Take and embrace each new opportunity for growth.
